Ovidius is remembered as a man whose composure held even when danger took a bite from his face. There is something almost unnerving in the image of his answering pain with a bite of his own, then calmly asking for champagne.

Ovidius au Lune appears in the Red Rising Saga only as a remembered ancestor, yet his single anecdote in Iron Gold transforms him from a mere name into the living embodiment of Lune aristocratic defiance. The tale of the Venusian manticore bite at his birthday gala—where he retaliates by biting back and then calmly orders champagne—establishes the standard of unflinching Gold composure that his great-grandson Lysander is measured against. Across the series, Ovidius remains a static, almost mythic figure whose legend is invoked to highlight the weight of Lune heritage and the expectations placed on Lysander.
Description
Ovidius is an elderly man with an athletic build and a face marked by a conspicuous chunk missing from one cheek, the result of a manticore’s bite. His age lends his features a weathered gravity, while the injury gives his otherwise composed presence a startling edge. No further details of his hair, eyes, or clothing are specified.
