Obsidian Collars begin as simple metal markers of enslavement in the early books, but evolve into potent symbols of rebellion and identity as the Obsidians rise against their oppressors. Initially denoting subjugation under the Golds, the collars later become tools of defiance, with characters like Ragnar and Sefi repurposing them to unite their people. By the later books, they signify both the scars of past oppression and the fierce autonomy of the Obsidian nation.
