The Railgun Slug begins as a simple, fist-sized gray projectile in Iron Gold, representing the devastating power of railgun technology in space combat. Throughout the series, these slugs evolve from mere ammunition into symbols of the escalating arms race between factions, with their destructive capabilities becoming increasingly central to major battles and strategic decisions. Their presence marks the shift from ground-based warfare to the vast, unforgiving theater of space combat that defines the later books.
