Steel Muzzle first appears in Iron Gold as a brutal instrument of psychological and physical control, designed to subjugate high-value prisoners while allowing minimal sustenance. Its chain-and-mesh construction enforces constant supplication, symbolizing the Republic's harsh new order and the personal vendettas that drive it. Across the series, the muzzle evolves from a simple restraint into a potent emblem of fractured alliances and the moral cost of victory, its presence underscoring how yesterday's liberators become today's oppressors.
