Cenn is only fifteen, a new recruit whose simple armor and earnest presence make him seem smaller than the spear and shield he carries. There is a familiar gentleness to his face, and beneath the awkwardness of a young soldier lies a boy still learning how to stand his ground.

Cenn begins as a fifteen-year-old recruit, barely trained and sent into the brutal work of battle. Kaladin tries to protect him, but Cenn is wounded in the fighting and later dies after a horse crushes his chest. His brief life becomes part of the weight Kaladin carries for the young men placed under his care.
Description
Cenn is a small, slight boy of about fifteen, with a youthful, familiar face said to resemble Tien's; the text does not specify his coloring or eye color. He wears a leather jerkin and knee-length skirt beneath a simple steel cap and matching breastplate, the spearman's armor making him look especially tiny. A spear and shield complete his equipment, and his young, vulnerable bearing stands out against the hard-edged world of soldiers.
