Nale is one of the Heralds, an ancient figure whose authority has become increasingly bound to the Skybreakers and their rigid pursuit of law. He appears as a tall Makabaki man, marked by a pale birthmark and an almost unreadable expression, and he carries himself as both judge and commander. Though he has defeated Szeth and often directs the Skybreakers from a distance, he eventually takes Venli into his care. His presence in the story embodies the terrible persistence of a once-revered duty when conviction hardens into antagonism.
Description
Nale is a tall man with deep brown skin, a shaved head, and a pale birthmark on one cheek. His face is notably expressionless, giving his features a severe, difficult-to-read quality. He wears carapace armor or a formal uniform whose cut is not Alethi, and his imposing bearing is heightened by the silvery Blade he carries.
