Orthanc-stone
itemOrthanc-stone appears in The Lord of the Rings.
The Orthanc-stone, also known as the palantír of Orthanc, is one of the seeing-stones crafted by Fëanor that Saruman possesses in his tower, enabling long-distance scrying and communication but ultimately leading to his corruption through Sauron's influence. Though not explicitly described in The Two Towers, its prior use by Saruman in The Fellowship of the Ring shapes his betrayal and strategic knowledge throughout the War of the Ring. After Saruman's downfall, the stone passes into the custody of the resurrected King Aragorn, who masters it to counter Sauron's deceptions. Across the series, it exemplifies the perilous double-edged nature of ancient Númenórean artifacts, evolving from a tool of wizardly power to an instrument of royal vigilance.
