She has the air of someone who has spent years learning exactly how much a smile can conceal—and hers offers little comfort. Silver threads crowd through her dark hair, while her sour, amused gaze makes every silence feel like a judgment.

Melitene appears as an experienced Seanchan der’sul’dam, seated at the head of a mounted group and marked by the hard composure of long practice. Her sour smile and watchful manner make her seem accustomed to command and to being obeyed. The book offers little more of her personal history, leaving her as a brief but sharply etched presence within Seanchan authority.
Description
Melitene is an older woman with long hair in which gray outnumbers the remaining black strands. Her face is sharply expressive, set in a sour, faintly mocking smile that makes her gaze seem perpetually appraising. She carries herself with the settled assurance of an experienced rider and handler, her practical bearing more striking than ornament. Her most distinctive feature is the sweep of silver threaded through her dark hair.
