A black hat, a crookedly amused look, and a way of watching the room from beneath his lashes make him hard to mistake—and harder to pin down. He carries himself like a man who expects luck to turn at any moment, but has knives ready in case it does.

Mэт Cauthon’s story begins with a village lad determined to avoid responsibility, but the road gives him more memories, luck, and danger than any one life should hold. He becomes a brilliant military leader, known as the Prince of the Ravens, while still insisting that he is no hero and wants no part of anyone’s grand design. His marriage to Tuon entwines him with the Seanchan, and his enduring friendship with Rand and Perrin anchors him amid shifting loyalties. By the end, his irreverence has never vanished, but it rests alongside hard-won courage and a commander's instinct for keeping others alive.

Description

Mэт is a lean, agile young man with dark chestnut hair and a face often touched by a knowing, crooked amusement. He has a slight limp and commonly wears a broad-brimmed black hat, practical traveling clothes, and a black silk scarf at his neck. A silver fox-head medallion rests beneath his shirt, while knives are tucked discreetly into his sleeves and clothing; he may also wear a signet ring. His presence is casual on the surface but keenly watchful, as though he is always measuring exits and possibilities.
