She carries the calm authority of someone accustomed to being heard, her weathered, handsome face framed by bright silk and glints of gold. Tattoos, medallions, and a delicate chain make her presence striking, yet her dignity is never showy.

As the Sea Folk’s Mistress of the Waves, Zaida arrives with the authority of her people and makes clear that their ships and loyalties are not freely commanded by others. Her dealings with Elayne are marked by hard bargaining, courtesy, and an unyielding sense of obligation. She remains a formidable representative of the Sea Folk, whose demands shape the terms of their alliance.
Description
Zaida is short and dark-skinned, with a handsome mature face and tightly curled hair lightly streaked with gray. Tattoos cover her arms, and a fine gold chain with tiny medallions links a heavy nose ring to a large gold ear ornament; a gold incense box hangs at her chest. She wears vivid silk and brocade blouse and trousers, a red sash intricately knotted with ends reaching her knees, and a broad white shawl that falls below her waist. Barefoot, with roughened soles, she stands with poised, unmistakable dignity.
