The Calanmai Trench Path first appears in A Court of Thorns and Roses as a ceremonial route leading to the Fire Night ritual cave, where Feyre Archeron witnesses the High Lord Tamlin's mating rite. Though it is not revisited in later books, the path's significance grows retrospectively as readers understand its role in the Spring Court's traditions and the political machinations that unfold around it. The path becomes emblematic of the Spring Court's ancient customs and the tensions between tradition and change that drive the series' conflicts.
