Tweedledum is a stout, storybook figure whose neatly marked collar seems almost too modest a label for his grandly comic presence. Beneath the outlandish battle gear, he has the air of someone perfectly at home in a world where household objects can pass for armor.

Tweedledum is introduced beneath a tree alongside his twin, Tweedledee, with an arm around his brother as they meet Alice. He shares the pair’s eccentric, self-assured conversation and their taste for elaborate nonsense. When they prepare for battle, he appears in a jumble of domestic objects fashioned into protective gear, turning the prospect of a fight into a wonderfully comic spectacle.

Description

Tweedledum is a fat little man with a rounded, compact build, distinguished by the letters “DUM” embroidered on his collar. His usual look is simple and toy-like, but his battle dress is a bulky patchwork of bolsters, blankets, hearth-rugs, table-cloths, dish-covers, and coal-scuttles. A helmet like a saucepan crowns the improvised outfit. His stout silhouette and closeness to his twin make him instantly recognizable in the garden’s absurd company. Tweedledum is a fat little man, compact and rounded, with a plump storybook silhouette. His face, hair, eyes, and coloring are not specified; the embroidered “DUM” on his collar is his defining visual detail. He wears simple clothes and is also associated with a helmet made from a saucepan, an improvised, comical piece of headgear. His bearing is emphatic and theatrical, giving even his ordinary appearance a touch of nursery-rhyme absurdity.
