The Sword Sage, also called the Sage of the Endless Sword, was a legendary wandering swordsman and Yerin's master whose death in Sacred Valley sets much of the series in motion. Lured by the wealth he carried, the elders of the Heaven's Glory School conspired to murder him, and his sealed Remnant left inside Yerin's core made her a target. Though he appears only in memory and legacy after the first book, his harsh training methods and his Remnant continue to shape Yerin's path, and later revelations recast his death as a tragedy in which he had opened himself to the attacks that proved fatal.

Description

A human man, described as a wandering Jade and skilled weapon wielder. He carries rare sacred herbs and a powerful sword; his specific physical features and usual clothing are not described. The Sage of the Endless Sword exists primarily through reputation and legacy rather than physical description. His presence is defined by the weight of his teachings and the Remnant of his power that continues to influence his former student. As a master of the endless sword, his form would carry the bearing of one who has spent a lifetime perfecting the art of the blade. A wiry man whose messy hair and half-lidded eyes create an impression of perpetual drowsiness. Six sword-arms hang limp from his back, and he wears tattered black robes that speak to a life of constant combat. His lean build and the white sword he carries mark him as a dedicated practitioner of the sword's path.
