Chapters
1Chapter 1
In Sacred Valley, seven-year-old Wei Shi Lindon takes the clan’s Spiritual Origin test, hoping to be named a Forger like his mother, but the madra remains still and he is declared Unsouled. His attempts to earn a badge through blood and a forbidden script fail, leaving him with an “empty” wooden badge as the other children advance in the sacred arts. The chapter closes years later with fifteen-year-old Lindon still testing himself in secret, clinging to hope amid shame and rejection.
2Chapter 2
In the forests of Sacred Valley, Lindon discovers an ancestral orus tree, but when Wei Mon Teris destroys it, its deadly Remnant rises. Using a script and a hard-won crystal flask, Lindon traps the spirit long enough to claim its fruit, breaking his arm but returning home triumphant. There, his family debates who deserves the restored fruit, and Lindon—long overlooked despite his sacrifice—asks to share in it.
3Chapter 3
Lindon persuades his family to give him half the spirit-fruit he risked his life to obtain, then faces the First Elder, who condemns his choice to venture beyond the protection of his clan and urges him to survive through humility and anonymity. Sent to feed Elder Whisper, the clan’s ancient sacred fox, Lindon climbs the tower with a fragile hope that Whisper can offer the help the Elder cannot; Whisper immediately senses the fruit’s power and asks for the full story.
4Chapter 4
Elder Whisper challenges Lindon’s belief that his path is closed, urging him to make his own, while privately sensing that the boy may be connected to a looming fate. At dawn, the clan’s public punishment of Wei Mon Teris turns into a confrontation: Lindon is challenged by ten-year-old Eri and accepts a duel seven days away, despite his injury and lack of training. Searching the archive for a way to grow stronger before the fight, Lindon finds one unexplored technique manual—Heart of Twin Stars—ending the chapter on a note of tentative possibility.
5Chapter 5
Searching the clan archives for a way to prepare for his duel, Lindon discovers the Empty Palm and, with Kelsa’s help, learns to wield it—while the orus fruit quietly strengthens his madra. At the dawn gathering, he challenges the much stronger Wei Mon Keth, disrupts his core, and concedes before Keth can retaliate; the First Elder intervenes with startling mastery, leaving Lindon inspired by the power he hopes to gain on his own Path.
6Chapter 6
After Jaran scolds Lindon for his risky duel, he unexpectedly praises his courage and explains how Lindon’s pure madra makes the Empty Palm uniquely effective—but also leaves him vulnerable. Lindon turns his victory into leverage with the First Elder and earns access to the Path of the White Fox, provided he wins at the Festival. The chapter then shifts from the Wei clan to the skies above Cradle, where Suriel weighs her duties against her doubts about the Abidan’s response to Ozriel’s disappearance before setting out for the Sacred Valley.
7Chapter 7
As the Seven-Year Festival approaches, Lindon trains relentlessly and witnesses his sister Kelsa’s dramatic advancement to Iron, a moment of family pride that sharpens his awareness of his own exclusion. Determined to improve his chances at the Festival, he secretly bargains with intelligent hornet Remnants, then hides their jar beneath the arena stage—only to be interrupted by his mother. The chapter’s mood balances wonder and celebration with Lindon’s resourceful, uneasy desperation.
8Chapter 8
Lindon’s mother, Seisha, catches him hiding a Remnant beneath the Festival arena, but instead of condemning him, she praises his initiative and warns him that the Li clan may be pursuing dangerous spatial madra research. Their cautious exchange reveals both her trust in Lindon and her habit of preparing for the worst. The chapter then shifts to a report describing the Seven-Year Festival: a gathering rooted in unity but transformed into a spectacle of rivalry, with each clan’s distinctive arrival and the Wei’s elaborate illusions setting the stage for competition.
9Chapter 9
At the Seven-Year Festival, Lindon overcomes his terror and uses the Empty Palm to defeat his Foundation opponents, savoring a victory that briefly makes him feel like a true sacred artist. Meanwhile, his mother discovers Li clan elders summoning a winged ancient Gold, who heads for the arena; when he appears beside her, Seisha realizes there is no time to warn the Wei clan and accepts that she may die.
10Chapter 10
After winning the Foundation tournament, Lindon defies the Wei Patriarch’s attempt to cancel his promised exhibition and faces his cousin Amon—only for a winged Gold, Li Markuth, to descend upon the arena and kill the Patriarch. Markuth claims Sacred Valley, displays the severed heads of Lindon’s parents, and overwhelms the gathered Jade defenders; though Lindon briefly chooses to fight beside them, his Empty Palm has no effect, and Markuth strikes him down. The chapter turns Lindon’s hard-won pride into grief and despair, ending with him dying on the arena’s edge as his sister watches and his father looks away.
11Chapter 11
Suriel arrives to stop Li Markuth’s invasion, resurrecting Lindon after he sacrifices himself and showing him the ordinary life—and eventual destruction of Sacred Valley—fated to await him. Refusing to accept that fate, Lindon asks how he can change it; Suriel shows him powerful artists beyond the valley, points him toward Yerin, and offers him a chance to leave and grow stronger. She restores the festival to its original moment, gives Lindon a token, and departs, leaving him with a new purpose and a fragile hope.
12Chapter 12
At the Seven-Year Festival, Lindon defeats Iron-ranked Amon by unleashing hornet Remnants, securing a place at Heaven’s Glory School despite the clan’s humiliation and Elder Whitehall’s contempt. As he prepares to leave his family and the only home he knows, his private knowledge of the coming catastrophe deepens his loneliness. Before dawn, he travels toward snowy Mount Samara and faces the school’s deadly Trial of Glorious Ascension, determined to find another way through.
13Chapter 13
To reach Heaven’s Glory before sundown, Lindon abandons the impossible climb and disguises himself as a robbed, injured herb gatherer, persuading a young disciple to carry him up the mountain. At the summit, Elder Whitehall—eager to claim the Sword Sage’s treasures and resentful of Lindon’s apparent success—publicly challenges and humiliates him, but must grant him entry to the Lesser Treasure Hall. Lindon’s resourcefulness secures his next chance, while Whitehall’s ambition and bitterness sharpen the chapter’s tense, distrustful mood.
14Chapter 14
After secretly bypassing most of the Trial of Glorious Ascension, Lindon reaches the Heaven’s Glory School and explores its Lesser Treasure Hall, marveling at artifacts that embody the power he hopes to attain. Though tempted by immediate advancement and dazzling treasures, he chooses White Fox boundary banners—a practical way to wield his clan’s path and preserve a connection to home—before an injured disciple confronts him in anger.
15Chapter 15
At the Heaven’s Glory School, Lindon turns the Lesser Treasure Hall’s White Fox boundary against Kazan Ma Deret, winning their duel through cunning rather than strength and earning Elder Rahm’s cautious protection. As he settles into the school and glimpses the dangerous world beyond Sacred Valley, Deret ambushes him, steals his new medicines, and leaves him injured in the Medicine Hall. Amid pain and doubt, Lindon overhears that Yerin has fought her way through a group of disciples, bringing him closer to the Sword Sage’s apprentice.
16Chapter 16
After learning Yerin’s location from an injured disciple, Lindon endures a punishing healing treatment and slips into the wilderness at night, driven by the hope that she can help him escape Sacred Valley. Meanwhile, Whitehall persuades the Heaven’s Glory elders to let him lead a new group against her, as they fear the Sword Sage’s unusually powerful Remnant but remain constrained by pride. Lindon finds Yerin in a snowy chasm, convinces her he is not her enemy, and they swear to help one another—only to learn that armed pursuers are already approaching.
17Chapter 17
When Heaven’s Glory disciples arrive to capture Yerin, Lindon’s illusion traps Kazan Ma Deret—but when the formation fails, Lindon kills him with a spear, shaken by the reality of taking a life. Yerin drives off Elder Whitehall, and the exhausted pair return to the school, where Lindon chooses to stand by her as she seeks her master’s Remnant and the spirit-seal needed to claim it. Their uneasy partnership deepens into a plan to raid the Lesser Treasure Hall, even as escape from Sacred Valley recedes behind Yerin’s unfinished business.
18Chapter 18
Elder Whitehall reaches the Ancestor’s Tomb, where a crack in its ancient walls hints at the danger posed by the Sword Sage’s Remnant, and plots to exploit Yerin’s arrival. Meanwhile, Lindon and Yerin break into the Lesser Treasure Hall; as Yerin battles Elder Rahm and the school’s constructs, Lindon gathers treasures and secures a Thousand-Mile Cloud. Yerin’s mastery of the Endless Sword turns the fight in their favor, and the pair escape toward the Tomb, their flight mixing exhilaration with the danger still ahead.
19Chapter 19
As Lindon and Yerin fly toward the Ancestor’s Tomb, their talk of stolen treasures gives way to Yerin’s grief over her master and their resolve to face the Heaven’s Glory guards. Inside, the Sword Sage’s Remnant proves neither sealed nor welcoming, and Yerin fights it while Lindon risks himself to hinder Elder Whitehall, ultimately helping Yerin land spirit-seals on the spirit. After surviving the battle and reaching the Tomb’s vast interior, Lindon faces Whitehall, who recognizes his resourcefulness and offers to work with him.
20Chapter 20
Lindon refuses Whitehall’s offer and risks everything to protect Yerin, splitting his core to survive the elder’s attack and ultimately throwing him from the Tomb. Yerin rescues Lindon, reaches Gold, and chooses to leave with him; as they escape the collapsing Tomb and Sacred Valley, Lindon learns he can pursue a Path of his own and names it the Path of Twin Stars. The epilogue widens the stakes: the pair enter the dangerous Desolate Wilds as the Abidan confront a spreading cosmic catastrophe, leaving the chapter with hard-won hope shadowed by peril.
