Gaius Helen Mohiam arrives as the formidable Proctor Superior who tests Paul with the gom jabbar, probing not only his nerve but the nature of his humanity. A Reverend Mother and Truthsayer bound to the Bene Gesserit’s designs, she serves as a stern voice of its breeding program and a wary observer of the forces gathering around Paul. Her old ties to Jessica make their encounters intimate as well as political, but neither affection nor fear loosens her grip on Bene Gesserit purpose. She remains a figure of formidable discipline, caught between the order she serves and the dangerous consequences of its long plans.
Description
Mohiam has a bulky, elderly frame and a deeply seamed face, its skin mottled and marked by visible veins. Her cheeks are sunken beneath an overlong nose, while her hooded features frame eyes that glitter with unnerving, bird-bright alertness. Hair like tangled, matted spiderwebs shows beneath the black aba robe, whose hood often shadows her forehead. When she draws it back, pale gums and silvery metal teeth sharpen her severe expression; her thin, scrawny hand and controlled stillness lend her a presence both frail-looking and commanding.
