Winky is the house-elf of Barty Crouch, a tiny, anxious figure whose devotion to her master shapes her life. After being dismissed, she struggles to make sense of her new freedom and finds a place at Hogwarts, where her distress and longing remain close to the surface. Her bond with Crouch and her friendship with Dobby reveal a deeply feeling elf caught between loyalty, grief, and the unfamiliar possibility of choosing for herself. By the end, her future remains uncertain, and her sorrow has not simply lifted.
Description
Winky is tiny, with legs so short they can stick straight out in front of her when she sits. Her long, batlike ears frame a face dominated by enormous brown eyes and a squashed, bulbous nose the size and shape of a large tomato. A tea towel is draped over her like a toga, plain and ill-fitting against her small form. Her voice is a teeny, quivering squeak, and her whole presence seems tremulous and vulnerable.
