Desiderius ruled as the last of the native Lombard princes, watching his kingdom's independence slowly crumble under the pressure of Frankish expansion. After a two-year blockade of his capital, he was forced to surrender both his sceptre and his kingdom to Charlemagne, marking the end of Lombard sovereignty in Italy and the beginning of Frankish dominance in the peninsula.

Description

A middle-aged Lombard king with fair skin and dark hair and beard, his features marked by the dignified bearing of one born to rule yet tempered by the harsh realities of political decline. He wears the royal robes and crown appropriate to his station, carrying himself with the measured authority of a monarch who has spent years defending his realm against overwhelming odds. His presence suggests both the weight of ancient Lombard traditions and the growing burden of a crown that grows heavier with each passing challenge.
