Gundobald began as the nephew of Ricimer who inherited command of his uncle's army, using this power to install Glycerius as emperor. As a valiant and ambitious prince of the Burgundians, he reduced the number of royal candidates through the deaths of two brothers and convened assemblies to address religious discontents. Though he yielded to the arms of Clovis and retreated beyond the Alps, he later violated obligations and massacred his own brother in pursuit of power.
Description
A middle-aged Burgundian prince with the bearing of both warrior and lawgiver, carrying the inherited authority of his uncle Ricimer's military command. His appearance reflects his royal status among the Burgundians, with the commanding presence of one who convenes assemblies and shapes the destiny of kingdoms through both diplomacy and force of arms.
