There is something profoundly unsettling about this young face bearing the marks of imperial violence, where the cruelty of politics has written itself upon flesh barely old enough to understand its own destruction.

Heracleonas, the fifteen-year-old son of Empress Martina, briefly held the Byzantine throne before suffering the traditional punishment of mutilation. His nose was amputated—a common Byzantine practice designed to disqualify him from future rule—transforming a young emperor into a living reminder of the brutal mechanics of imperial succession.
Description
Heracleonas appears as a fifteen-year-old youth of imperial bearing, with refined features now marred by the brutal amputation of his nose, leaving a raw, disfiguring wound at the center of his face. His dark hair is cropped short in the Byzantine manner, and his eyes carry the shocked expression of one whose world has been violently reordered. Despite his youth, he wears the simple clothing of his fallen state.
