Joseph the Zeirid rose from humble service to receive the kingdoms of Tunis and Algiers as reward for his merit and fidelity. A reverend monk who was called from his monastery to serve in important functions, he would later withdraw back to monastic life. In his elderly years as patriarch, he trembled at the perils of sea travel yet yielded to royal mandate, ultimately dying during council proceedings.
Description
An elderly man whose patriarchal dignity and monastic background define his presence. His appearance suggests the gravity of religious office, marked by the trembling of advanced age and the weight of responsibilities that span both court and cloister. His most notable visual markers are the royal mantle he receives and the forty Arabian horses that accompany his elevation.
