Jovian rose from his position as first of the domestics to become Roman Emperor following Julian's death. Educated in Christianity, he displayed the banner of the Cross at the head of the legions and accepted the humiliating peace terms that required the evacuation of Nisibis. His reign was marked by the transition from domestic servant to emperor, bearing the Labarum of Constantine as he led his legions.
Description
A Roman emperor of comely person and cheerful temper, marked by familiar wit that sets him apart from the typical imperial bearing. His appearance reflects both his recent elevation from domestic service and his newly invested imperial ornaments. The banner of the Cross and the Labarum of Constantine serve as his most distinctive visual markers, displayed prominently at the head of his legions.
