Marcus Aurelius Quintillus assumed the purple at Aquileia following his brother Claudius's death, claiming the imperial throne in a moment of crisis. His reign lasted only seventeen days before the challenge from Aurelian proved insurmountable. Rather than prolong a hopeless contest, he chose to withdraw by opening his veins, ending his brief imperial claim with dignity.
Description
A middle-aged Roman with a soldierly build and imperial bearing, Quintillus presents the image of a man accustomed to military command. His features are clean-shaven and stern, with short dark hair beneath the imperial laurel wreath. He wears the purple robes of Roman emperorship, the fabric falling in heavy folds that speak to both authority and the weight of sudden responsibility.
