Omar began as a fierce warrior who threatened death to those who claimed Muhammad was mortal, then became the second caliph who instituted the Hegira and expanded Islamic rule. From his austere life of barley bread and water, sleeping among beggars, to his death from an assassin's wound after twelve years of rule, he embodied the transformation from conqueror to reflective ruler who questioned his own legacy.
Description
A man whose simple white robes, torn in twelve places from years of wear, mark him as both caliph and ascetic. His dark hair and beard show the marks of age and warfare. He carries himself with the austere dignity of one who preaches in simple dress and sleeps among beggars, yet commands the loyalty of armies and the respect of nations.
