Riggalai, known as the Seer and the wax-witch, is an old woman whose death is glimpsed early in the novel. Later, Apsalar remembers her as one of the figures threaded through her own memories. The book gives little of Riggalai’s life beyond her association with prophecy and the lingering impression she leaves behind.
Description
Riggalai is an old, bony woman with narrow shoulders and deeply wrinkled lips. She wears a rough woollen shawl over coarse, sacklike clothing. Her gaunt outline and stark, weathered features give her a severe, unsettling presence. No details are provided about her hair or eye color.
