Ishnah begins as one of Shallan’s agents, a short Alethi woman who has spent more than a year working alongside her and whose competence is tempered by an occasional, telling blush. A Lightweaver, she is assigned to record observations in Shadesmar, where her careful sketching and steady attention make her a useful witness to unfamiliar phenomena. Her connection to a Cryptic is marked by the spren riding on her hairspike, while her association with Shallan and Veil brings her into the intimate, uneasy work of the expedition. She remains an observant ally, combining practical discipline with a very human capacity for shock.

Description

Ishnah is a short Alethi woman, older than Shallan but not by much, with straight black hair and bright red lip paint that sharply defines her expression. She wears an Alethi havah suited to her work, with one hand gloved instead of concealed by a sleeve. A hairspike ornament carries a Cryptic, an uncanny detail against her otherwise practical appearance. Her compact bearing is usually composed and attentive, though a blush or an unsteady hand can briefly betray her feelings.
