Kabsal arrives as a witty young ardent, befriending Shallan through sharp conversation and a shared interest in Jasnah’s beliefs. Their growing closeness makes his attentions feel tender and genuine, but his plan to poison Jasnah is exposed when the poisoned bread reaches him instead. He collapses, shaking, and dies, leaving Shallan to confront the possibility that affection and deception had been woven together.
Description
Kabsal is tall and lean, with a narrow face, deep blue eyes, and a shaved head that leaves his features unobscured. His beard is trimmed short and square, and spectacles lend his handsome, youthful face a thoughtful air. He usually wears simple grey ardent robes; a tattoo of three diamonds marks the inside of his arm. His manner feels open and animated, with a quick, companionable wit.
