Elhokar carries the polish and pressure of a young king, dressed in dark silk and surrounded by the rituals of rule. There is a watchful tension to him, as if he is measuring the room—and wondering what it sees when it looks back.

Elhokar begins as the king’s son and heir, presiding over a feast in the finery of Alethi royalty before taking the throne himself. His reign is shadowed by insecurity and suspicion, and he doubts that Dalinar’s army can endure. At the dueling arena he appears in Shardplate, an image of royal power that sits uneasily beside his uncertainty. His place in the story is shaped by the strain of inheriting authority before he has found confidence in it.

Description

Elhokar is a tall, well-made Alethi man with lighteyes; the text does not specify their exact color or his hair. His appearance is refined and royal, most often marked by a dark silk coat embroidered in silver or gold. When dressed for public spectacle, he wears Shardplate with gauntleted hands. He has a guarded, squinting expression and the formal presence of a ruler under scrutiny.
