Noril is introduced among the battle-scarred patients of Kaladin’s program, carrying battle fatigue, nightmares, persistent melancholy, and suicidal thoughts. Though he is known by the harsh nickname “one-armed fool,” he is later seen patiently painting a shash glyph on a young girl’s head, his three cheek moles unmistakable. His painted mark also appears on Lirin’s forehead, a small gesture that reaches beyond his own pain. The book leaves him still marked by what he has endured, yet capable of tenderness and care.
Description
Noril is an unkempt man with a rough beard and eyes reddened by sleeplessness. His left arm is missing, and the empty sleeve of his shirt has been sewn closed; three small moles sit on his cheek. His clothing ranges from a thin shirt and shorts to a buttoned shirt with trousers, always plain and practical. He carries a tired, subdued air, softened by a patient steadiness.
