A battle-scarred Atreides warrior and musician, Gurney serves Duke Leto and helps train Paul, teaching him the handling of ornithopter wings as well as the discipline of combat. His harsh face and biting manner are balanced by a love of music and a store of quotations from the Orange Catholic Bible. Even amid upheaval, he remains a loyal, capable presence, and some of his force find safety through his smuggler connections.
Description
Gurney is a rough-hewn man with a broad, irregular face and eyes that catch the light like splintered glass. Wispy blond hair skims the bald patches on his scalp, above a wide mouth often curled into a deceptively pleasant sneer. An inkvine-whip scar cuts along his jaw, and his long-fingered hands end in notably large thumbs. He wears an Atreides uniform and a cap marked with Hawat insignia, often carrying a nine-string baliset; his presence is sardonic, tough, and watchful.
