Stilgar first appears as a guarded Fremen leader, his face partly veiled and his blue eyes measuring those before him. He becomes Paul’s guide and ally among the Fremen, and his loyalty is tested as the people and their cause are transformed around him. As leader of Sietch Tabr, he shifts from a man whose authority rests on custom to one who must reckon with the force Paul’s rise brings into his world.
Description
Stilgar is tall, with eyes of total blue and a thin, sharp nose above a full-lipped mouth. His heavy beard glistens like a blade, and his slender hands are marked by dark veins. He most often wears Fremen desert robes—a light tan robe or mottled burnoose, with hood and black veil casting shadow around his eyes—and a copper pin engraved with a hare fastened at his neck. His bearing is watchful and spare, carrying authority without wasted movement.
