Hawat begins as the Duke’s formidable Mentat and Master of Assassins, a seasoned adviser whose sharp calculations help anchor the Atreides household. After the fall of that house, he is captured and forced into service as the Baron’s Mentat assassin, carrying his loyalty and grief into the enemy’s court. His path is shaped by the brutal tension between the people he serves and the powers that try to command him. He remains a figure of keen intelligence and enduring loyalty, even when his circumstances are turned against him.
Description
Hawat is an older, tall, slender man with a hawk-like face and a weathered, leathery complexion; his cheeks are described as cracked and burned by exotic climates. His eyes are brown and rheumy in one account, while another describes them as blue within blue, with no visible white. Thin lips, stained cranberry-red by sapho juice, sit beneath fine creases that radiate upward, and his shoulders curve slightly forward. He commonly wears a worn, torn, or slashed tunic, and carries himself with a still, watchful precision.
